DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT

Our bilingual, interdisciplinary, pan-Canadian partnership aims to widen, deepen and institutionalize access to higher education, research and training opportunities to bridge the gap between the talents of students and researchers with lived experiences of forced migration, and opportunities in Canadian research communities and labour markets.

We leverage complementary expertise, knowledge and methodologies of 13 academic, research and community partners from across Canada: Access Alliance, Amnesty International, Canadian Association for Refugee and Forced Migration Studies (CARFMS), Canadian Museum for Human Rights (CMHR), Immigrant Services Society of BC (ISSofBC), Laval University, Research Nova Scotia, Saint Mary’s University (SMU), University of Ottawa (uOttawa), University of Winnipeg (uWinnipeg), World Education Services (WES), World University Services of Canada (WUSC) and York University.

Together We Will:

Generate direct new research and career training and mentorship for 650 undergraduate students, 42 graduate students and 30 postdoc researchers with lived experiences of forced migration. Our bilingual training resources will be compiled in an open access repository, providing learning opportunities for an unlimited number of students, highly qualified personnel, administrators and faculty members

Create, analyze and disseminate an open access database of existing initiatives for displaced scholars and researchers across Canada. The current patchwork of scholarships, training and research opportunities is haphazard and confusing, inhibiting transformational change.
